“That’s So Cliché

Words are powerful and through history, words have been the source of both the inspiration and demise of men. Take for example the term “sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me”, if that were true we would not have so many people in therapy for the verbally abusive words they heard as children from their parents. Obviously words do hurt, and with the understand that words carry such power, we should be more mindful of our choice of words, and carefully select where we place them. Even with cliché terms that we have become accustomed to saying such as “I swear to God” when, we are admonished in the Bible that “if a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth”, we still cannot break away from the bad habit. Surely such a cliché statement is not meant to be taken serious, unless of course God holds us accountable.

As cliché as terms may be, we are not exempt because if we speak jest, ignorance or by a force of habit. Every single words that we speak, we will have to give account for, so why not be deliberate in the words we chose and speak life into the world. “Love you to life”.
