“It’s not who you know but who knows you”. This quote manifests itself in quite a few areas of our lives; including business, personally, spiritually and financially. When we think about influence we think of celebrity, sports, political and wealthy people who can impact the lives of the masses. Although a large-scale impact is one way to affect other; influence is just as important when dealing one on one as it is on millions. By definition influence is “A power affecting a person, thing, or course of events, especially one that operates without any direct or apparent effort”. This would mean parents, friends, teachers, and siblings can influence the people around them verbal or nonverbal.

Martin Luther King gave a speech called “The Drum Major Instinct” where he summarize “greatness” in the form of service to others, rather than in tangible items, titles, or self exaltation. He referenced the two disciples in Mark 10:35 who asked if they can sit on the right hand and on the left of Christ in the Kingdom. They were told that the greatest in service will have this honor and not just the greatest in desire. Likewise in today’s word influence and the power to affect people beyond hype, is based on how many lives we impact through services and our reputation. Influence others through greatness in service.
